Update was sent out October 18th, however, further to this, the portables are now occupied and the gym is again being used by all students.
October 18, 2024 Dear Island Lakes Community School Families, I’m writing today to provide an update on modular classrooms being added to Island Lakes Community School (ILCS).
Modular Project #1, complete with Site Servicing and Roadway Access We are nearing the completion of the first two modular classrooms. The steel staircase and access ramps are in place, complete with the recently poured concrete sidewalk. All the electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems have been installed and tested. The design consultant team will be visiting the site next week for a walk-through. Once all the deficiency work has been completed, the contractor will make a request to the city inspectors for final inspection. The division is working towards obtaining an occupancy permit before the end of this month.
Modular Project #2 The project to construct another two modular units, in addition to those mentioned above, is currently completing the conditional use posting period. Upon receiving the approval of conditional use and completion of construction drawings, development and building permit applications will be submitted to the City of Winnipeg Permit office. The construction will begin once all permits have been received.
I understand the delays in the installation of modular classrooms have caused frustration and disappointment for many. I sincerely apologize and take full responsibility for the situation. I set an ambitious target that school and board office staff, as well as contractors, have worked hard towards achieving — while navigating the many bumps that come with a project of this scope. We will continue to work diligently to complete these projects as quickly as possible and to rebuild trust with the families of ILCS.
