Trans-Tech Industries: From a One-Door Shop to a National Drivetrain Leader
Trans-Tech Industries’ story begins with a teenager, a first car, and a blown
transmission. At just 16, John Braconnier cranked his music so loud he didn’t realize he
was driving in first gear—until the transmission gave out. With the help of his uncle, he
rebuilt that transmission from the ground up, sparking a lifelong passion for automotive
repair.
By 1980, at only 19 years old, John opened his first shop: a tiny workspace with a door
barely six feet tall. “I’d drive a car in, lift it up, pull the transmission out, and rebuild it.
When it came to trucks, I’d drive them up a ramp I built outside,” he says. That humble
beginning would grow into Trans-Tech Industries—now one of Canada’s leading
suppliers of drivetrain parts.
John has been an entrepreneur from the moment he opened that first shop, and his
enthusiasm for cars and trucks has never faded. His reputation for quality and integrity,
built over more than four decades, has earned him loyalty from customers across the
country. At the heart of Trans-Tech’s success is a simple principle: deliver the highest-
quality parts with unmatched service. John has spent his career passing this
commitment on to his team, fostering a culture rooted in continual training, professional
development, and genuine passion for the industry. Unlike many automotive
businesses, Trans-Tech prides itself on developing employees who understand the
value of loyalty, craftsmanship, and growth.
Today, Trans-Tech specializes in drivetrain components for light-, medium-, and heavy-
duty vehicles. Their extensive inventory includes manual and automatic transmissions,
differentials, transfer cases, torque converters, rear driveshafts, and a full range of
related parts. With over 100 years of combined experience, their staff offers the
knowledge and expertise needed to support every customer’s drivetrain
needs—professionally, reliably, and affordably.
More than forty years after John’s first shop, Trans-Tech has grown into a multifaceted
operation with four distinct divisions: a vehicle service centre, a state-of-the-art
rebuilding centre, a specialized torque converter division, and a parts distribution
network that serves customers across Canada and the United States.
What’s next for Trans-Tech? Continued growth, expanded product offerings, and a
strengthened online presence—ensuring the company remains an industry leader while
staying true to the personalized, hands-on service that started it all.
